Stainless
Steel Shot
Available in AISI 316L and AISI 304 grades. Delivers superior surface finishing without iron contamination — the critical requirement for corrosion-sensitive, medical, and food-grade components.
Why contamination-free blasting matters
When conventional carbon steel shot is used to blast non-ferrous or corrosion-resistant substrates, microscopic iron particles become embedded in the workpiece surface. These embedded particles oxidize rapidly, creating rust spots — a phenomenon called iron contamination or "rust bleeding." On stainless steel components, this destroys the passive oxide layer that provides corrosion resistance.
Stainless steel shot prevents this entirely. Because the blasting media shares the same elemental composition as the substrate, no foreign metallic species are introduced. The chromium-rich passive film on the workpiece surface remains intact, and the component retains its full corrosion resistance post-blasting.
For industries governed by FDA 21 CFR, EU Regulation 1935/2004, ISO 13485, or ASTM A380 cleanliness standards, stainless steel shot is not optional — it is a specification requirement. Macloid Metalix supplies certified stainless shot with full material test reports to support compliance documentation.

| Size Grade | Diameter (mm) | Hardness (HRC) | Grade | Composition | Application |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SS070 | 0.18 mm | 30–40 HRC | 304 / 316L | 18% Cr / 8% Ni | Fine finishing, precision parts |
| SS110 | 0.28 mm | 30–40 HRC | 304 / 316L | 18% Cr / 8% Ni | Light scale removal, soft alloys |
| SS170 | 0.43 mm | 30–40 HRC | 304 / 316L | 18% Cr / 8% Ni | General purpose surface prep |
| SS230 | 0.58 mm | 30–40 HRC | 304 / 316L | 18% Cr / 8% Ni | Scale and oxide removal |
| SS330 | 0.84 mm | 30–40 HRC | 304 / 316L | 18% Cr / 8% Ni | Heavy cleaning, thick castings |
| SS460 | 1.17 mm | 30–40 HRC | 304 / 316L | 18% Cr / 8% Ni | Structural fabrication, weld prep |
316L grade includes 2–3% Mo addition for enhanced chloride resistance. Full material test reports (MTRs) and certificates of conformance available with every order.
Key industry applications
Aerospace & non-ferrous
Aluminium die castings, titanium aerospace structures, nickel alloy turbine components, and copper precision parts — all demand contamination-free blasting. Stainless shot eliminates galvanic corrosion risk between dissimilar metals.
Medical & pharmaceutical
ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR Part 820 require device surfaces free of contamination that could cause adverse biological reactions. Stainless steel shot ensures post-blast surfaces meet biocompatibility requirements without costly secondary cleaning.
Food & beverage
EU Regulation 1935/2004 and FDA regulations require food-contact stainless surfaces to remain free of contaminants. Stainless shot maintains regulatory compliance and supports HACCP certification for equipment manufacturers.
